Summer is at its prime, the days are long and the sun is bright, there is no doubt that we are in August. And nothing says August and summer like Vacation! August vacation is what we wait for all year long to appreciate those long summer days and soft summer nights in every way possible. Let's continue to add to those wonderful summer memories by reading our LoveLetter for August.
What if we were to tell you that we are saving a little surprise for you all for back to school? (Let's say yes and continue with the analogy 😉 )
We want to keep the surprise for a bit longer BUT here is a little teaser for you all…
For a couple of weeks now, the LoveTeam has been working on a fun collaboration that will start September 5th so stay tuned for some exciting news! 😉
If you are a member of the LoveCommunity, you might already be familiar with the history behind Lovebox and where this beautiful idea sparked from. And if you do not know, the Lovebox was created by Jean for his fiancé, Melodie, while they were long distance during his time at M.I.T. He wanted to find a way to create a unique channel for there love. So he stumbled upon the FabLab at M.I.T. ( it's one of the places where you can create anything that your heart desires!) So he created exactly what his heart desired, a Lovebox for them to send their love to each other.
As you can already imagine, Jean and Melodie are not the only ones to face long distance. Many lovers and loved ones are separated every day by millions of kilometres of distance. The LoveCommunity is filled with long distance relationship stories. This month we wanted to share with you Sarah and Mathieu’s story, who have been separated by distance for many years now and who found Lovebox as a new way to communicate every day.
“My love is in the military and rarely has access to a phone and when he does it is to respond to his loved ones and to send me reassuring messages to let me know he is doing well and that he loves me. It will soon be 4 years that we are far apart from one another ( although I do get to see him from time to time.)
When I discovered the Lovebox, a couple months ago, I completely fell under the charm of the story behind it. Hearing that it had been created by Jean for his Fiancé to combat the distance between them made me reflect on my own relationship how helpful Lovebox could be for us. When I told Mathieu about my idea he immediately jumped at the idea. In telling our friends about the idea they didn’t quite understand why we needed ANOTHER means of communication when we already had smartphones with MANY communication apps. What they failed to understand and what I explained to them is that this little-connected box would become our dedicated love object. Kind of like totem for our love to each other. The Lovebox brings us little moments of joy every day that we need when we spend 3-4 months far away from each other.
I have put mine in my living room and every time I see the heart spin, I get butterflies. This little object has brought so much that we were missing in our everyday lives. Thank you for having this incredible idea. Thank you for making this object to ease our pains and making it possible for us to still love each other regardless of the distance. Thank you, from the bottom on my heart!“
This month we have the great pleasure of doing a LoveInterview with Maëva!
Maëva is our Communications manager at Lovebox, she is behind all the newsletters that you receive!
Yes, that's right! It is me, writing to you at this very moment! I guess it is kind of strange to be talking about myself… Well, anyways I'll let Sharleen take over the interview 😉
What makes you happy?
Everything. I like flowers, talking nature walks, the fresh nature air… I like meeting up with my friends of after work drinks ( water only of course!) I love my cat, Pamplemousse, I like going out dancing alllllll night long on weekends! I think that this life is just too beautiful and that the best thing you can do is fully sink your teeth in and taste all the flavours it has to offer!
Where are you from?
I am from Lyon, France. It is the city of two flowers and the centre of gastronomy!
What do you prefer the most in people?
People’s kindness, simplicity and especially there happiness.
What would you say defines you?
I am a little in the clouds, sometimes a bit naive and am fascinated by everything. Seeing a simple butterfly would make me happy! This characteristic of mine usually makes others laugh quite a bit! But I really believe that beauty is invisible to the naked eye and can only be seen if we want to see it from within.
What is your favourite movie?
Avatar is my favourite movie. Every since it came out I has been under the charm of this incredible universe and the characters it develops. I can't wait for them to make a second one!
What would you say is your biggest flaw?
I have a very loud voice and I have a hard time toning it down. Even my parents make fun of me for it!
Une manie qui n’appartient qu’à moi...
J’ai tendance à procrastiner dans ma vie personnelle, surtout au niveau administratif, je n’aime vraiment pas ça, c’est une corvée encore plus grande que la vaisselle (si si, je vous assure).
In another life, what would you like to be?
A cat. But a cat in a wonderful family, to give me lots of love and cuddles and play time!
As Labor Day weekend is getting close we are all heading to the beaches and parks for a nice picnic, or getting ready for a fun-filled barbecue day in the backyard with friends. This is the perfect opportunity to test out some new recipes and venture out into discovering new vegetables… like… the Zoukini!
With its rich flavours and many ways of cooking, the Zoukini is the perfect summer vegetable and is also great for your health!
The LoveTeam has put together a special French recipe for your convenience so that you can try to out over the Labor Day weekend with friends and family. 😊
